1980 Sailboat Skye 51 Ketch Kaufman & Ladd
WHISPER has been sailing and racing out of San Diego Yacht Club for many years successfully and family looking forward to her having many new adventures.
This Skye 51 by Kaufmann & Ladd is an ideal long distance cruising yacht with a reliable and safe sea keeping character. Below decks the stunning woodwork in Birma teak is timeless and well preserved. Her ketch-rigging can be sailed with ease, comfort and speed. She is a well-balanced yacht, self-sufficient and has proven herself on numerous occasions.
It is believed The Skye 51 Ketch was designed by Kaufman & Ladd of Annapolis, who were commissioned by the John G. Alden Company. Eighteen original Skye 51's were built under direct supervision of Alden and are highly sought after by world cruisers. The design was for a "performance cruising yacht" easily handled by a couple and intended for world voyaging. However, because of a dispute between the American importer and the builder, some were sold as MAO TA 51 and also sold by Pan Oceanic Marine (USA) as OCEANIC 51.
